Seagate Pushes Past 32TB
Seagate has extended its high-capacity hard drive lineup to 32TB across three product families built for very different jobs: Exos for enterprise servers and cloud data centers, SkyHawk AI for video surveillance systems, and IronWolf Pro for NAS boxes. All three are CMR (conventional magnetic recording) drives, shipping through authorized channel partners worldwide at recommended retail prices of $729.99 for Exos, $699.99 for SkyHawk AI, and $849.99 for IronWolf Pro.
Each version is tuned for its use case rather than just being the same drive with a different label. The Exos 32TB is built for density and power efficiency in racks, with an MTBF rating of up to 2.5 million hours. SkyHawk AI 32TB is designed to handle up to 64 HD camera streams plus 32 parallel AI analytics streams, supporting more than 10,000 hours of stored video, which Seagate says is roughly three times the workload tolerance of a standard surveillance drive. IronWolf Pro 32TB adds AgileArray for vibration tolerance in multi-bay NAS enclosures, plus IronWolf Health Management for predictive drive monitoring.
The Bigger Play: HAMR at Hyperscale
The 32TB CMR lineup sits alongside a bigger shift already underway at Seagate: its Mozaic 4+ platform, built on heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology, is now qualified and shipping in volume to two leading hyperscale cloud providers at capacities up to 44TB, with a roadmap toward 100TB per drive as the technology scales. HAMR uses a laser to heat the disk surface during writes, allowing data to be packed far more densely than traditional recording methods without sacrificing long-term reliability.
That matters even for buyers who will never touch a 44TB drive directly, because it signals where the areal-density gains behind future consumer and prosumer capacities are coming from. The same engineering that lets Seagate promise hyperscale customers 100TB drives eventually trickles down into the Exos, IronWolf, and SkyHawk lines UAE customers actually buy.
Why It Matters for UAE Storage Builds
Seagate points to IDC research showing more than 75% of organizations expect their stored video volume to at least double over the next five years, driven largely by AI-based analytics layered on top of existing camera feeds. That is a direct pressure point for any UAE business running a multi-camera surveillance setup, where retention windows and camera counts keep climbing faster than the drives installed a few years ago were built to handle.
